Description (physical)

The statue and pedestal are set facing the boating lake so that Snooks is framed by the view of the sea over the sea-wall. The first version of Snooks was stolen but in February 2003 but replaced in September, although the sculptor, Gwynneth Holt had died in 1995.

Description (iconographical)

Snooks sits upright looking down at the boating pool in search of the chips from the town's many fish and chip shops. Snooks had roamed this patch, with a notice on her collar ‘Please do not throw stones at this dog.’ Dr Acheson loved children and sailing. As borough councillor he had improved the town’s amenity and the boating pond had been enlarged from a Second World War water tank. After his death his wife continued as a doctor and first-aid instructor for the St John’s ambulance Brigade and Aldeburgh Lifeboat.
