Description (physical)

Hyldon Court was built as part of the Edwardian development of Felixstowe to take account of the fine vews over the sea from its position high up on the cliff. It is a symmetrical red brick house dominated by the central gabled block pargetted in a mock Renaissance style popular around 1900. The cartouche in the main frieze frames the date of 1338 and is accompanied by putti riding dolphins. The maritime theme is continued above with two small sea-monsters blowing curved shells while the sun-dial is framed by swags of fruit.

Description (iconographical)

Much of Felixstowe's history centres around the defence of the country. In 1338, Edward III used the long creek, now known as Kingsfleet to assemble his fleet before setting off to battle with the French
