Description (physical)

An installation of twelve cylindrical posts on a landscaped earthwork, which overlooks the Orwell in one direction and the new estate on the former airfield on the other. The posts are arranged in a horseshoe pattern at varying heights, with one central post slightly higher than the rest. Each post is surmounted by a wing-shaped vane, which changes colour according to the angle from which it is seen, and its movement in the wind as the vanes rotate individually to create changing patterns against the backdrop of the sky.

Description (iconographical)

Green Wind incorporates a range of references suggested by its location on a former air field; based on the cross-section of airplane wings the vanes recall wind socks and flags as well as the flight patterns of birds or shoals of fish.
