Description (physical)

The gates are set back from the road with the curving flint wall preserved on the left but the symmetry of the scheme was marred with the later addition of the gatehouse on the right. The low flint wall is punctuated by piers topped by urns -slightly less elaborated versions of those crowning the two central rusticated piers with their elaborate but sorely rusted gates. There are smaller gates for pedestrians at the sides set under swags.

Description (iconographical)

The gateway was commissioned as part of Sir Robert Harvey's grandiose scheme for his house -Crown Point House here - and bank in Agricultural Hall Plain Norwich of 1866 NFnrNOR002. After Harvey's financial failure and suicide in 1870 the house was taken over by J.J. Colman - the mustard king - before becoming Whitlingham Hospital.
